MK1 Octavia tyres - pirelli, falken or goodyear?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

One of the questions I'm asking and wondering whilst I ask it if I'm being cheap BUT...

looking at getting new tyres for the mk1, have bought a single pirelli 205 50 17 pzero rosso (don't fancy trying out 225/45/17), now I'll end up buying atleast one other brand new pzero rosso (£105 fully fitted) so the axel will match...

Question is... for the other 2 tyres -

Pirelli PZERO Rosso £105 fully fitted each.

Goodyear Eagles - £93 fully fitted

Falkens (??) £63 fully fitted...

Is the extra money worth it for the pirellis or should I be ok with the Falkens?

Thanks guys

I've always believed you get what you pay for, hence the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics on mine. Can't fault them at all and I'm hoping to get 20k out of them. I'm currently on 5mm after 12k miles.

I normally get 8,000 from tyres on the front... maybe its driving style... Although hardly any of my mileage is motorway so the tyres are given a hard life...

I am an old man now and get scared if I go above 40mph. My tyres shouldn't last as long I know, but old age does that to you!

I was seriously looking at the F1's due to really good reviews across the board - but a few unforeseen bills saw me settle for my second choice, the Falken 452's. I cant remember what I paid - I'll post a price when I find the ticket lol - I'm really happy with them and they are better feeling than some cheapy tyres I have had in the past for sure. Good reviews too.

If you have P Zero on one axle, then put the same on the other axle too.

That way your car is best balanced in terms of grip.

I've run the Falkens and their grip is good, so I'd say they are worth a punt, but right now with winter coming I'd say keep the car matching.
