Panel air Filter or Induction kit?

Featured Replies

Hi All

I have booked my mk1 octy VRS (only having moved into the VRS circles in the past two weeks) with R-tech (Hinckley) for a remap on Saturday. If there is any feed back good or bad about them please let me know.

Also I am considering changing the air filter is it better to just change the panel filter or pay the extra & go for the induction kit. I have heard that the induction kit can mess up parts of the engine.

The remap will take it to 210bhp does anybody know what can be done to get 250-300bhp?

Thanks G Unit

i run an induction kit on mine i love the sound of it!

I'd go the panel route, as it's been proven to provide more torque on a tuned engine. Plus you keep the clean OEM look. Up to you though really. Personal choice. Been covered plenty of times before so hit up the search button to find out more.

To get 250-300bhp you will need to spend alot of money. Basically you'll need a bigger turbo, and all the millions of bits that go with it. Do a search to find out more.

I had my octy vrs mk1 done with r-tech a couple of weeks back, they will do a thorough job for you.

Make sure you have some good petrol in the tank, ie. optimax or tesco 99 and that the old stuff has run through the system as this will give the best results. Forget the induction kit and go for a green cotton panel filter or buy a pipercross at r-tech.

Make sure you upgrade the diverter valve to a forge 007 which r-tech should have in stock and will fit for you.

p.s get a couple of coil packs ordered from you local garage and put them in the boot as these are likely to go after a couple weeks/months after a remap.

Enjoy!

Any chance you could you elaborate?

A remap will bring any faults to the surface and if a coil pack is coming to the end of its life it will kill it off!

Its a £35 part, the engine will have 4 and they sit on top of the spark plugs, hence why theres 4.

A bigger turbo and associated parts is the only way to touch that sort of power.

I agree with Bodge, I felt the panel filter on the Mk1 gave more torque than the CAI. Tbh I think a clean OEM paper panel element is just as good as any performance filter and will keep your engine safe IMO.
