Confused....

Featured Replies

Hi,

The more I read about this on the internet the more I become confused:(

I thought I had this sussed but I don't think I have.

Basically I own a 2004 vRS, fitted with a double din 'Symphony' unit.

I would like to replace that with this:

Ebay Item

Would this fit and work ok?

During my 'reasearch' I think I would have to remove the cup holder and purchase a new fasica trim...anything else I'm missing?

Thanks for reading

Mark

The first one you linked to won't fit - it's the wrong shape for the dash. The 2nd one that Simbo posted will though, if you want something like that.

Also worth noting that your standard Symphony isn't double DIN. The overall size is more akin to 1.2DIN, to fit Skoda's dash design really.

So if you fitted one like Simbo's shown you, you'll loose the cubby hole underneath the stereo, as that space will be needed to house the stereo.

HTH,

Steve

Excellent!

Thanks very much for your replies (certainly straightened a few things out for me, double DIN, 1.2 DIN etc)

I don't mind losing the cubby hole underneath, I only use it for the mobile phone anyway.

I just want it to be a good fit, no missing trim, gaps etc.

What a great link to the post by 'Nuriyan' - def. the way to go, unit has everything (and more) that I'm after.

Looks like I'll be treating myself to an early xmas preset......

Cheers

A bit of an update for you.

I purchased the same one as 'Nuriyan' - loads of features and a great price. The same one from Kenwood was over £1500.

This one $345 with the p&p, now I just have to get hold of a double din bracket

Oh yes Santa did arrive early - although the misses is far from impressed....

Just got back from being away, trial fitted the unit yesterday just to make sure it all works.

It is a really great piece of kit:D

Have ordered a fitting kit, this should turn up early next week.

Once I took the old unit out, theres a vertical piece of plastic at the back in front of the heater ducts - it's part of the mounting that held the old radio in place - is it safe to remove this?

Reason I'm asking is that there is not alot of room for all the cables etc plus the new unit won't push all the way back because of this:confused:

Think I just answered my own question...sorry

Seached on another post:

"Biggest issue I had was just getting the cage in, I had to remove the old stereo and the little plastic tray that sat below it, using a Junior Hacksaw blade and holding it in my hand I managed to easily remove the plastic that sits behind the stereo, after that, cage went in with no issues (10 mins ish)."
