Just fell in love with & bought Octavia Mk1 VRS

Featured Replies

Hello all, :handshke:

I've just bought my first Skoda, an Octavia Mk1 VRS 1.8 estate 2006 build (yep, I checked VIN) on a 55 plate.

When I first saw it I fell in love (or lust?) at first sight and knew I was going to buy it. A quick test drive cemented that love.

I won't pick it up until Monday at the earliest.

Me? I live in the SE (Redhill in Surrey) and am now the owner of 2 cars and 3 motorbikes (a long story why I've got 5 vehicles when I can only use 1 at any one time, but I'll be trying to reduce that down to 2). I'm divorced with 3 lovely boys aged 11-7 and will soon be moving to Derbyshire (well, I think, but much can happen in the next few weeks). I'm a chartered engineer (most stuff except electronics & buildings) and am working as an actuary (numbers person for an insurance company), but may soon take early retirement (again, long story). I've always wanted a Skoda from the days when the Rapide Coupe came out (by now you should be getting the impression that I'm past the first flush of youth, physically at least) but it didn't suit the long distance work that I was doing at the time.

There are a few things that I want to do to the Octavia, for which I'll start searching the site for any help:

  • Service
  • Manual (for service!)
  • CD/DVD/Radio (missing from car)
  • Reversing camera (a bit kitsch, but I reversed into a post once - pain in wallet)
  • Sat nav fit (for Zafiras, my current other car, people have moved the information display into the roof console and fitted a sat nav, say Tom Tom 520, in it's place) and speaker upgrade (if that's recommended, no point wasting money if existing system OK)
  • Find a suitable name (I often call my cars & bikes by names, with the Zafira being known sometimes as 'Victor' but mostly as 'it', the bike I intend to keep I call 'Rocket' because its colours resemble that of the ice lolly and took TinTin (my hero) to heaven & back). As an aside, Rocket is female as I treat her like a woman - I jump on her, I turn her on and she takes me to heaven and back, sometimes 5 times a day (with credits to Blackadder and apologies if I offend anyone!)

Anyway, that's enough from me for now.

Looking forward to meeting you.

Cheers,

Ian

Hello and welcome to the site .

Welcome :)

What a good first post - very comprehensive :D

Hello and hope you enjoy it

Steve

Welcome :)

Hello :)

Hiya.

The owner's manual is now available on-line as PDF, Haynes do a service manual for the Octy1.

As for a name, why not wait for the car to tell you what its name is?
