Dodgy starting and missing power

Featured Replies

Does anybody know what may be wrong with my 110hp ASV engined Elegance?

1. I was having the odd poor starting experience when the car was hot, cranking over for ages until it started again. I replaced the glow plugs for new items and this seemed to have fixed the problem but it did it again yesterday, any ideas?

2. When the car has been started from cold and is warming up it feels like the Turbo just switches off, when the car gets to normal operating temperature and I restart the car its fine, I've been told this might be electrical, any ideas?

you need to get the car checked with vagcom to see if any faults have been logged but 1 could be the EGR/anti shudder valve and 2 could be the dreaded sticky turbo vanes problem.

Try searching there should be plenty of info on both problems and see if there is anyone near you with vagcom - look at the list in the diagnostics forum.

Thanks for the advice, a mate is in the process of buying vagcom software so should find answers soon.

Cheers

another thought that has just occurred to me for the first problem is that it could be the battery.

When warm the engine needs to reach 250rpm on the starter before the ecu chucks the fuel in. If the battery is on it's way out it the starter doesn't have enough umpf to turn the engine over quick enough. This isn't a problem when cold as the fuel is turned on straight away.
