Boot not opening

Featured Replies

The boot on our superb 130tdi classic has stopped opening from inside the car and when you press the boot release from outside it only opens with the key what could be wrong:confused:

Is there a quik fix

Yes. I had this problem shortly after buying my Superb - although it was under warranty, I wanted it fixed properly without further damage so I did it myself.

The problem on my car was a stiff pivot in the boot latch assembly which is operated by the bowden cable in the boot lid cavity. The actuator motor was unable to provide sufficient force on the latch to operate it, although you could do this manually with the key. The CCM removes drive current to the latch actuator after about 2 secs if it does not see the "boot open" signal from the latch microswitch in order to prevent the motor burning out.

Remove the boot lid trim (as I remember, screws in the "handholds" and under the triangle) and unclip the trim around its edge. The clips are very stiff and unplated - grease them before you put them back otherwise next time the clips will break and the trim will be damaged.

Follow the bowden to the latch end and find the pivot for the lever the bowden pulls on. Apply oil and work a few times - this should fix it. VAG have a tendency to bump riveted pivots too hard making them stiff - as with the boot hinges. These need oiling sparingly with light oil monthly to keep the boot free.

My boot lock has been fault free since I oiled the lever pivot 2 years ago.

rotodiesel.

Weather forecast bad - make sure your Superb is under cover or CCM will be wet.

Try using the key to lock and unlock in the door panel 1st, by the flap and boot release.
