help with 6 speed box for octy vrs o3 plate

Featured Replies

hi there i have got all the things together i need to put the 6 spd box in my car but its a 4wd box can any one tell how and what you need to blank off with a plate or if anyone has got any pics of one done tht would be great cheers

Mk1 didnt come with a 6 speed. Mk2's do however.

is it a petrol 6 speed or a diesel 6 speed ????if its the later i wouldn,t even bother not running k04.. will have a search for your answer though buddy

In theory you should be able to just remove the bevel box from the side of the diff housing, and run normal length drive shafts off the diff as normal. If you already have the box, then have a bash at removing the bevel box, and see what the diff output flanges are like. If they match up with your current gearbox flanges, then jobs a goodun! Note the words "in theory" though!!

What code is on the gearbox then? Eg: Mk1 RS (5spd) has an EHA, Mk1 LCR (6spd) has an FZQ. This table might be of use to someone:

Please tell me you have this in a higher resolution as I can't read it either.

But why would you want a 6 speed box?

Top gear ratio will be the same, you will just be changing gear more often :(

the 6spd boxes are stronger.

But looking at the mods you have, do you need a stronger box?

only need a 6 speed if running huge power 400bhp + imo

im having problems with torque causing the clutch to slip ,and yes its a new up rated one , and reading about the 6 spd box its a better box all round , and with having aequal length shafts may help with the torque steer , and another reason since running more power the 5 spd box has become noisey ,so as i alredy have the bits might aswell have ago at swaping it , if i can remove the 4wd system and convert it to 2wd , i think it will pull better with the 6spd box as the revs will drop in to the tourque range better , hopefully we shall see soon

TBH I think it will be a waste of time, but wish you well with the conversion :)

Please post how it goes for others considering a similar modification :)

i will do if i can figure what to do with the box

Hi,

It may be worth contacting JabbaSport as I think they have done this before......Might be wrong though!

02M (petrol) 2wd boxes are easy enough to come across if all else fails and you are still hell bent on fitting a 6 speeder.

Not sure whether the equal shafts will be more advantageous over a normal 6 speed box in terms of controlling torque steer though....

I have a normal 02M diesel box (and 400+bhp) and I don't suffer from torque steer.....maybe it's the peloquin diff?????

Best of luck with the job whatever you choose!!

Steve
