Central locking unlocks but will not lock. Help please.

Featured Replies

Hi All,

My 99 Octavia 1.9 SLX TDi Estate, Central Locking System has a problem.

It will not lock all doors from either the Driver's or passengers door locks, although it is still possible to unlock all the doors.

I've been getting around it by using the internal driver's lock control on the driver's door but of course it doesn't arm the alarm/immobiliser.

Supplementary info:

The automatic window opening function(convenience system), had been very sensitive lately when unlocking the car, needless to say this is now only working intermitently.

Also the Courtesy light came on when the CL stopped working(because it's all linked i suppose).

I had some water ingression recently, got rid of most of the water just a slightly damp carpet in the nearside rear footwell, although i'm still getting a fair bit of condensation in the mornings.

Is it :

- that the door lock mechanism needs changing

- the master switch is faulty.

- a faulty control module

- a faulty relay

Thanks in advance

As described, this suggests that the car is detecting (incorrectly obviously) that one of the doors is open. From what you say, I'd suspect that the problem is most likely condensation or corrosion in a plug in the LH rear passenger door (but that's a guess).

Thanks Ken

The car would always lock fine previously when a passenger door was open, as i used to do this to get my children out having locked the doors previously.
