Hi,

I've recently bought a 02 Octavia VRS (78K). Love the car however I've found the gear leaver to be particuary stiff, it doesnt rock from side to side very easily and often have difficulty selecting 1st gear when first starting off.

Plenty of grease under the gator however with these dark nights i'm having to wait until the weekend to investigate fully.

Does anyone have any tips as to what it may be, what i need to look for etc. In another post someone has mentioned a damper - is this on the gear box at the end of the linkage?

Any advice greatfully recieved.

May just be a build up of ****e under the gator. It may just need a clean out.

The gear change is via cables. On top of the gearbox you'll see where the cables connect, I suggest some WD40 and oil on the linkage and cables an work it in.
