Reducing Tyre Noise Octavia 2

Featured Replies

I notice that there is a fair bit of activity on this forum about internal noise generated by road noise. I have had a 1.9 diesel estate for six months now ( second hand, originally Dec 07) and road noise has been an irritation from day one from the factory fitted Dunlop SP Sports. I have had success with previous cars ( not Skodas) of reducing noise by Tyre choice. I have had a four wheel alignment done , the factory settings were miles out, particularly the rear cambers, way too much.

I have put a pair of Continental Premium Contact 2s on the rear and there was a major reduction in noise. Now can't wait til the fronts wear out so as to have another pair. They are a smooth quiet comfort tyre with good levels of grip but don't last for ever. Even with just two on the back it feels like a different car and the radio is not turned up as loud. I inherited a rubber boot mat with the car and that also helps.

I doubt these tyres will suit high performance versions of the car but for normal driving a definite route for a quieter life.

Hope these comments are helpful.
