Hi Folks, haviing just returned from a business trip, to find the Octy's boot with a large puddle of water in it.

It is the Drivers side where the side net is. Having spent ages looking at various things I now believe I may of fixed it

2 areas look to be the culprit.

1. was the Tailgate strut ball joint. The nut was loose so that was easy to fix by just tightening the nut up. (also checked the other tailgate strut at the same time)

Here is a pic tightened up. (sorry for bad focussed pic)

2. Next was the pain to find.. I am sure it is the weld joint just behind the tailgate strut, as it had a slight crack in it , probably where the weld must of originaly gone through the outer metal, but may of had enough paint on it to stop water getting through. Movement of the tailgate over the years must of caused the paint to lift slightly enough to let water drop through it and get in the boot. I got in the boot and could see water droplets on the drainage channel, that depending on the angle I reversed up the drive would drop water either into the extreme right hand side behind the net or down the side of the arch and in front of the net. It would then run down hill to the back of the rear seat. As the boot liner has compressed card underneath it, that was soaking up the water until it was completely soaked and that is where i could see it on the carpet.

Here is a pic of the weld sealed up waiting for a day to do a paint touch up.

I have a leak into my boot as well,i have cd changer out,net out from other side,carpets out,had someone in the boot and hosed it down,water started appearing from body seams under both rear lights,it,s not the rear light seals leaking,have had both rear lights out and well sealed up,had the rear bumper off and all i could see was,at both sides,just along from where the bumper gets bolted on the is a hole in the bodywork, on both sides,there is a small pin on the bumper either which lines up with the hole,but the pin is tiny compared to the hole which it goes into,anyone have any ideas if anything is supposed to go into these holes,im starting to get fed up with taking ice off the rear window,and im pretty sure this is what,s causing it,if nothing goes in these holes,there getting welded up as they seem to serve no purpose,another thing i noticed there seems to be a lot of wind noise from the boot area,have adjusted boot so it shuts a bit tighter but has made no difference.
