vRS gearbox query

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I think the 'box in the octy is going to go pop soon. I'm told the bearing in first gear is buggered, giving noisy first gear. Has been like it for over 2 years.

Just now it's started whining when off power in 1st.

So my query is this: if it all dies is it cheaper to buy a new or nearly new box? And does anybody go to the 6 speed? She's standard and will probably stay that way.

Ah pretty cheap then. Skoda wanted several hundred just to open up the box ant take a look.

Thanks,

Matt

My car had a dodgy gearbox when i got it. Cheapest gearbox i could find was about £300 on ebay. I ended up paying about £800 for reconditioned gearbox/diff, add a clutch ( i seem to recall that was £2-300), and some labour, and it wasn't cheap :(

Oh, man! It's getting worse too. Bad timing. :(

I want to take it to Awesome again but will have to be back in southern parts soon, damn!
