As I am in Germany for January and February I recently had winter tyres fitted to my Superb.

Having spent several hours in Basingstoke yesterday I now know their value. On one steep gradient a Range Rover Sport (presumably on normal tyres) failed to get to the top. My two wheel drive Superb sailed up with no problem at all. The Vredestein Wintrac Extreme tyres make driving on snow and ice an enjoyable challenge not an arduous task. After two hours negotiating abandoned cars in Basingstoke cars I made it to a rather slushy M3 and back to Somerset.

That is a very good endorsement of winter tyres. Perhaps you might consider adding your comments o the other winter tyre threads.

Now we just need everyone else in the country to get a set for the winter and we wouldn't have half the problems as we've seen in the last couple of days! :yes:

It is shocking how stupid some people are. Even with summer tyres it's doable with some common sense

Very impressive!! I'm quite fancying a Superb as my next car, but as a leased company car I'm sure it will come with some hard wearing motorway tyres (hence useless in the winter). However, I'm giving some serious thoug into having a set of winter wheels in the garage for November to March. Are the tyres on a set of spare rims, or did you have them fitted to your existing alloys etc? What ever the setup, how much were the tyre?....or tyres and rims etc?

Another member has just put me onto a site called mytyres.co.uk The cost is about £143 per steel rim delivered fitted with a Vredestein Wintrac....so about £572 for a full set.
