Brakes "Fluttering" or "Rumble"

Featured Replies

Chaps I hope I am not imagining this, but my car was recently parked up outside our house for 2 weeks in the freezing weather, since I started to drive it again I feel that when I am braking that there is a rumble / shudder coming through the pedal that was not there before, has anyone had a similar situation? 5K on the clock.

Any views welcome

sounds like pad judder or warped discs

If you've not given the brakes a hammering one of the solutions to pad judder is to blast the brakes with a pressure washer to get rid of the dust. If that doesnt work, have the wheels off and clean the discs up with some emery paper

Happened to us after we'd left the car on Dover docks for a fortnight. Solved by a couple of hard stops from speed to clean up the discs - the handbrake had been on and the bits of disc not protected by the pads had rusted.

I felt the same thing reversing down my driveway while it was snowy a couple of weeks ago. I felt it rolling backwards very slowly on the brakes, but couldn't reproduce it while rolling at anything higher than very slow walking pace. It disappeared as soon as the weather warmed again...

Hi John, what sort of speed were you doing to free this up under braking?

I'll report back if this continues boys, thanks for taking the time to answer, at least I know I am not going daft, FWIW never occured with my Mk I VRS but it was only parked up for a 5-6 days in snow, this has been a long off road period.

I've just had exactly the same problem with mine. I've just bought a vrs and had left my 1.9tdi comfort outside for a few weeks til I thought to give it a blast. I got a strong shudder from the back brakes but it cleared up fairly quickly with 3 or 4 hard brakes from high speed.
