Alpine Replacement Cage

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I've managed to lose the cage for my Alpine headunit and have been checking out ebay for a replacement so I can put it in my Fabia. My original cage was like the one in this ebay auction 150407410510 Ebay 1 however there are cages available for the fraction of the price which claim to be compatible with my head unit but look more like this Ebay2 (Item 360223514325).

Clearly there are major differences between the two. Just wondering if anyone has used one of these and can confirm if any good and how you release the head unit from them as the locking "mechanism" is obviously different. I'm trying to save some cash here and the cheaper one seems the better option, if it works. Last thing i want is to get the head unit in and not be able to remove it :(.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Alan

Some Alpine's have a small latch system on the bottom right of it, you need to make sure that lug is there otherwise the unit won't stay put!

The Autoleads doesn't appear to have that.

But if your stereo has the other type of latching system (where you need keys down the sides) then it should be ok :)

Having a look at a pic of one on ebay the and you can see the marks made by the cage on the top of the stereo, this is the same as mine - see pic on link.

How does the universale cage work? some of the flexible prongs out to keep the cage in and then 2 angle in where the keys would release it? Looking at the pic if that's the method behind it I think the central 2 prongs angle in would roughly match the marks on the pic above? What's your opinion?

Call Alpine, they should be able to provide a replacement one for not alot. They did for me a few years ago when I fitted one of their headunits in our caravan...

Thanks, gonna try the cheap cage first as i think I've got the release point wrong on the head unit and reckon it is side release. If all else fails I'll do the alpine route and hopefully save some pennies on the 3rd party distributors :)
