service cost,any ideas?

Featured Replies

hi all, my service indicator came on today.my cars on variable servicing at the minute and the cars only done 33k on a 05 plate. i called 3 dealers and they all say something different.one says put it on fixed servicing until 40k then swap it back to variable??? another says just have a 40k variable and leave it on variable. the last says just have a 20k variable with brake fluid change.WTF? if you think that lots different wait til you here the prices.anywhere between £185-£385 +vat. awesome said bin the variable servicing coz its not much good for the engine, which makes a bit of sense now the cars a full phase 2. i want to get the discs and pads (f+r) uprated so the brake fluid change can get done at the same time. have you guys had similar problems, would you recommend awesome for servicing? thanks guys.

I had skoda do all mine up till now. I am on QG1 variable. cost £190-£210 for all mine and Ime on 74K now. Ive never had the brake fluid changed neither the spark plugs for some reason even tho the service said it should of been done. must be that they were in good nick.

18453 was the first

33954 was second and I am sorry but yea they did dio the plugs but not the brakes

54241 was the third were I hade the water pump and timing belt done too again no brake fluid change.

no on 73400 ish and I am going to do the sercive myself, along with the rear discs and pads(I did front 2 yr ago and ther is no real sign of wear on them) spark plugs and DOT 5.1 fluid check out my It isnt my year thread for all the parts I got and prices on them.

I am saving quite a bit of money doing it myself, and I know its gonna be done properly. I spose with having the car tuned to S2 it would do it good for an oil/filter change more often, but again thats something you can do yourself, so if you keep it on the Longlife on and just do your own oil/filter change at say 9k miles it wouldnt harm it? then drive it till the service comes on on even a bit longer so long as you dont go over the 20K mark.

I was quoted £240 from skoda up north just for a std service only £100 tops is on parts and everything else is easy to do. Haynes is your friend lol

billy

just pulled out my last service bill,

60K service, Cam belt, Water pump

service= £114.40 + vat 17.5

Belt and tensioner= £156 + vat 17.5

water pump = £10.40 +vat 17.5

thats Labor alone!!!!!

shell oil longlife 4.2l = £40.95 +vat lol its a rip off!!!! when you can get it for £35 for 5l of proper VAG quantum(castrol Ive been told)

all in all that visit cost me £558.82.

OMFG

on my second service it says 2nd long life service.

ok

but then it says

10W40 magnatec oil was put in! now I know why the service light came on after nearly 10k!! and when I took it in to Huddersfield skoda after it had changed to DM keiths they called me saying it didnt need servicing and that the comp was set wrong! OMG now I know why the car felt like crap to drive it ran diff, luckilly after 11-12k I did an oil change myself back to 0W30. otherwise I would of been driving around with oil not designed to do 20k+

lol

so that has put me off servicing it at a dealers. that one cost £282.95 back in july 07

You'll need the cambelt/waterpump doing if it hasn't already been done, so:

Cambelt/waterpump = £200-£300, all in

Full service incl. oil change/brake fluid change/spark plugs = £150 from my local VAG specialist, or

Normal service incl. oil change = £100 as above

I'd stick to fixed servicing as well, every year or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first.

I do brake fluid every 2 years, but then I only do about 5,000 miles a year ;)

Hope this helps :)

I'd trust Awesome or Unit18 (Ally's company IIRC). As for making recommendations, this is one of the reasons for asking where (roughly) you live! ;)
