Octavia vRS window electrics

Featured Replies

hi all, just brought an octavia, and have a problem with my front passenger door will not lock or unlock you have to do it manualy, and also i have an intermitant fault with the drivers door controls sometimes the switches work and then they wont, any ideas? and also the passenger door window switch dosnt work at all nor does the electric mirror? thanks

Should really be in Octavia 1 or Octavia 2 tech forum as applicable.

If it's an Octy 1, the problem is probably water in the connectors on the driver's door wiring loom. Does the red LED on that door flash when it's locked?

the led does not flash at all, but would the drivers wiring loom affect the passenger door fault, the passenger window will go down with the drivers control but will not with passenger control, and also the passenger door will not lock with the central locking, and the passenger mirror will not operate also, please can some one shed some light as it is realy bugging me and i want to get it sorted, thanks again

It's called a CAN bus. Why use wires directly from the switch to the consumer, when you can send encoded messages through 2 or 3 control units instead. Less wiring/sensors and more functionality, brilliant when new and under warranty, however when there's water ingress it can produce some perplexing fault symptoms.

You need to look at the drivers door control unit plug for signs of water ingress and corrosion as Ken mentioned in post #2.

Hi, i've just hit a similar problem with my vRs. Drivers door only locks with key. If ingress of water is the cause, will the system return to full order when dried out or will it need replacing? Also where is the ingress of water likely to be? Within the door or at door hinge connector? Thanks for the help so far.

It will depend on how long it's been like that, and hence whether the connector(s) are just wet or actually corroded.

The connectors are all physically inside the door, and the glass to door void seal isn't ever 100% waterproof (anecdotal evidence being that I once returned to a car after a rain squall, and watched water flowing out of the door drains. Since the car hadn't moved during the squall...)
