W8 Light Install

Featured Replies

Hi folks

Need a bit of help. I have a W8 light that i am going to install. It has the correct loom etc. I just need to know which wire i need to cut into in the loom that runs up the drivers A Pillar to turn on the Cat Vision when the sidelights come on

Cheers

I have one to fit when i get round to it.Mine is from a Superb as they come with green lighting rather than red.

I take it you mean the Buttons light up green?

I would imagine the Cat-Vision is still red.

Cat vision? :S

Cat Vision = Diffused low level red illumination over the center console area, its red to preserve your night vision.

The red buttons on the W8 unit dont matter at all, they are out of your field of view and blend nicely with the cat vision lighting.

To get the W8 unit illuminated with sidelights and headlights you need to run a single cable down the A pillar, behind the fuse box and into the back of the light switch.

I tapped into the blue and white cable after I got hold of the wiring diagram between the lighting controller and the switch and scotchlocked the cable from the W8 unit to it.

IIRC the blue and white cable supplies a common dimmable feed from the lighting controller to all of the interior illumination (dash, climatronic, light switch, window switches etc etc).

Ignore the red crimp - that was a result of me snipping the wrong wire! Thats why I am not a bomb disposal expert :giggle:

I seem to remember Fluffmeister had one in his 2nd Octavia and there was something on here regarding how to do it.

Thanks for that Dstev. Just what i needed.

@ Hedge Thats who i got the Light off.

It has everything with it i just wanted to know which wire to tap into as i have a scotchlock connector so will be using that rather than cutting wires.

Awesome. Really want one of these, but are they available in dark grey to match my headlining?

There are some black ones on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.de/Fuer-VW-W8-Ambientenleuchte-schwarz-Golf-Passat-Kabel_W0QQitemZ400103466246QQcategoryZ57318QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4340.m263QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DSIC%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BIEW%252BFICS%252BUFI%26otn%3D10%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D7893395902779876003

A bit steep if you ask me and then you have to ask yourself whether they are OE or not.

The info is from here: http://www.r32oc.com/group-buys/19513-w8-roof-light.html

There is a part number for the genine grey W8 light at the start of this thread: http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/112187.aspx

There is also a tutorial but it is missing pictures and its for a Mk4 Golf so won't apply to the Octavia II in certain parts.

From what I have read they will set you back about £40-45 at the VW dealership - if they have any in stock.

I am currently in the process of spray painting mine matt black.

With it's location in the roof it won't stand out anywhere near as much as the Light Grey.

Once it is all done either Thursday or Friday i will be making a tutorial as i fit it.

I will also be doing another tutorial for the install of a Shark Fin Antenna
