Just wanted to find out, is there any place in Ireland (mid west preferably) that I can get a replacement car key without having to go to a dealership who are asking for a small fortune (300EUR).

I know that it's not just a question of buying off the shelf but that it entails buying the right key type and thenhaving it coded to the car or vice versa. So between the labour and the key purchase garages are justifying prices like above.

Any info would be great.

I've used these people in the past for keys:

I know that they are not local, but I have had keys cut from a photos which I've e-mailed them. The photo needs to be good quality and it helps if you go over the higher part of the blade with a black felt tip pen to make the cut more clear.

You could get a used flip key off e-bay, have the blade cut as above and purchase a new transponder from here:

Then it is a case of getting it coded, you'll need to find someone with VCDS, Hex Can version to do this - if you have the immobiliser SKC log in number, otherwise you could send the ECU away to Shark90 on here to get it retreived. Failing that it will be a trip to the dealer to get it coded, if they are willing to code a key which they haven't supplied.
