Grinding noise

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a Skoda Octavia 1.9sdi, last year my gearbox was reconditioned.

However, just recently it is making a grinding noise when In and out of gear, although I am having no problem with

finding the gears.

Has anybody any ideas what this could be, could it gearbox related if so would a reconditioned gearbox

hold a 12 month guarantee.

Grateful of any advice and possible costs.

Thanks in advance

If it grinds whenever the car is moving, is it worse when turning than going straight?

As to the warranty point, we're not going to be able to help without knowing where the re-con box was sourced from.

Hi

Thanks for your reply I have had the car into the Garage today and they told me thats its a Diff

noise it is in the early stages.

As the car is used as a taxi am i risking driving it and do you know the costs involved in putting this

right??

I have been in touch with regards to the warranty and they only provide a 12k one as it is a taxi.

Thanks for your help

Have you drastically lowered the car recently??

Have you drastically lowered the car recently??

No not at all done nothing to it apart from drive it albeit it quite alot as it is used as a cab

Thanks

I know precious little about the internals of these boxes, but unless the oil level is low there's nothing much you can do now short of replacing diff and/or entire box.

Incidentally, lowering the car is completely irrelevant to the diff itself, although it could stress the CV joints in the driveshafts.
