Symphony 2 HU removal

Featured Replies

Trying to get the HU out without success... bought the Autoleads 5133 keys but they don't fit so trawled here and tried the cut-down credit card/junior hacksaw blades approach but to no avail - not a happy camper at this stage! So looking to get access to the rear of the unit via the dash (trying to plug in an MP3 harness to the multichanger input), but after undoing most of the heater rotary module i'm still no closer to the unit as the HU need to come out to remove the cubby hole AAARRGGHH!!! How wdo you drop the glovebox - undid the 4 torxs' along the top edge but it didn't move.

When I removed the hu from my son's Fabia vrs we bought the Kenwood removal keys from Halfords. When you get the keys in and the clips have clicked, angle the keys outwards and then pull gently to remove head unit.

We had the x car link ipod unit with the extra connector on and placed it in the little cubby hole under the radio with velcro did job fine and didn't move. Had to remove the plastic cubby hole thingy, just clips out, dont use excessive force and drill a hole in the back big enough to pass wire through to back of HU, don't clip everything back together until you have checked it works. Hope this helps, should only take 30 mins tops. Taking everything apart like you have is an awful lot of work.

Hope this helps.

Was the HU the Symphony 2 i.e. the one with the single central knob - if so which Kenwood tool did you use. The cubbyhole appears to be held in by the HU, did it unclip with the HU in or out? Ta.

Yes it was the Symphony 2 unit with the central knob, and the HU had to be unclipped before the plastic cubby hole unit came out. Can't remember which keys, but Googled it and found a result, went to halfords and bought them. They had finger holes on the end to help with the grip and removal.
