vRS Mk1 a few issues

Featured Replies

My car had it 80K service today at 70607 miles at Alex lawrie in Liverpool. The service notes indicate that it needs a new NS ball joint, fairly straight forward and not too dear but even though they read the fault codes, inspected the car and then test drove it, two codes remained ( I didn't find out the code numbers - doh) but one relates to the EGR and the other is that the ABS computer wouldn't connect - hence the ASR light being on. The ABS is still working and the technician suggested there is a wiring problem but nothing obvious.

Are these common faults? I should say the car is driving very well, no noticeable drop in performance.

As mentioned in a previous post, the car has had the DV relocated at some stage and therefore has a non standard pipe where it meets the throttle body but all the connections are good and tight.

There was a picture of a black Mk1 vRS from this site in the customer waiting are btw!

the asr light could be the air flow meter it happened on mine i have a 2nd hand one if you want one pm me if you want it

They could be old fault codes from issues in the past that have since been fixed - the codes would need to be cleared and the car driven for a while to see if they return.

If you can get the fault code numbers then post them on here. If the garage didn't make a note of them then you could try a local member with VAG-Com or get a cheap fault code scanner.

Is that the MAF? I thought ASR was something to do with traction control?

I was hoping they'd let me know the codes so I could ask on here! I have had a kind offer of VAG-com from Steve in Glossop and Jay in Macc but I've not managed to get over to them yet! This morning was a rare day that I wasn't looning around the country so I took the opportunity to get it serviced...

Thanks for the replies chaps!

The traction control light being on can be a sign of something up with the MAF oddly enough... I've no idea why that is but it's popped up on here a lot in the past! Reading what the garage have told you about the fault code though I'd definately try and find out the actual code before shelling out for a MAF.
