Brake issue pickup

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a Felicia Pickup from 1998 and this winter it started to missbehave.

The issue:

When I drive away from home everything works perfectly, but after about 8-10 miles (used the brakes 5-6 times) the front brakes seem to get more and more stuck.

after using the brakes another 10-15 times it is actually hard to drive since the brakes are more or less stuck like if you press the brakepedal while driving.

of course this results in heat at the brakes which in turn makes them work worse and worse.

as far as I know it is only the FRONT brakes that are stuck.

remedy: to stop for 30-40 minutes and wait for everything to cool of, but that is insane since I bought the pickup to stop having to use a trailer behind my Octavia.

The entire problem seems like the master cylinder never releases the preassure, but if this is the issue, shouldn't it be a problem after using the brakes once?

Any tips are welcome.

The car is a pickup -98 with a 1.6 petrol engine.

Sorry for my bad English...my native language is Swedish.

your english is fine

try changing the non return valve that goes between the intake manifold and the brake servo, it operates on vacuum from the engine..

either that or it is fitted the wrong way round, the arrow on it points towards the engine... failing that it may be a fault on the servo itself

does iit have abs as well?

No ABS (it is registered as a light weight lorry and there was no requirements on ABS in -98 on that, the reason for registering it that way in Sweden is much lower tax and insurance)

Is there a way to check that valve or is it not possible and the only way is to replace it?

Another thing... shouldn't that affect both front and rear brakes?

Don't suspect it to be fitted the wrong way though, haven't touched anything under the bonnet since I bought it last July and the problems started in mid December (when we had -18C and a lot of snow outside)

Will look at everything this weekend, starting with that valve, then the calipers/pads, then the servo... but all different kind of input is appreciated.

If the truck has sliding calipers, they could be sticking when they get hot.

Oh and, as usual for a Swede, your English is better (spelling and particularly grammar) than that of a lot of native English speakers these days!

ooh, is it a left hand drive model?
