Camshaft posistion sensor (G40) implausible signal

Featured Replies

Hi All,

A 2001 2.0 petrol. The car runs fine, engine light sometimes pops on and I've had it diagnosed and it's "Camshaft position sensor (G40) implausible signal".

I'm aware of what the sensor does but am not sure where to locate it and can't find any visual guides online. I'm aware it could be a timing issue, but as it's intermittent I guess it's actually the sensor? Can anyone point me in the right direction of any info online or guidance of how to basically check the sensor?

Thanks,

Jonathan

Hi,

I had a very similar error code to this (on a 2.0 SLXi, engine code AQY) which was intermittent, but when the warning light came on there was a noticeable drop in power and mpg. I would imagine that if the ECU does not know where the camshaft is it will have to switch from sequential injection to batch injection (based on crankshaft sensor). The sensor was replaced and lives in the cylinder head behind the camshaft sprocket, so is a cambelt off job unfortunately.
