Hi. Thinking of buying a Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

Hi,

Decided I want to change my car (Mazda 3) due to the poor fuel economy and the rising cost of petrol.

Have always like the look of a Fabia vRS so I'm looking at a couple of Skoda approved cars this week, fingers crossed i can get a deal done.

I'm quite interested in getting it remapped, the extra power would be a hoot, but I dont know how this would affect the fuel economy? I would be happy with around 170bhp. Can anyone offer some idea on the sort of mpg I'd be looking at please?

Thanks,

David

(Northumberland)

Hope you have driven one first as the fabia vRS being Diesel is not to everyones taste.

Being an ex owner that was remapped to 180, i can say from experience that you will loose approx 2-3 mpg on std, however the compensation of the addtional torque, when pulling away , out of moving traffic jam will probably mean you forget the slight loss of mpg.

As a sports clothing manufacturer says - Just Do It :smirk:

Don't.

Welcome :D

Have driven diesels before, although never owned one, and really liked the pull from the turbo. Losing a few mpg isnt too bad for the extra torque.

I've totally got the bug for buying a "new" car now, hopefully I can get something sorted asap :)

Test driving an 04 plate vRS tomorrow, 30k on the clock so hoping it's all ok.

Quick question, does the cambelt get changed after 4yrs or is it 60k miles? Is there anything else I should be looking out for other than regular servicing?

Welcome! (im a newbie too ;) )

Cambelt is both, change it at 60K miles or 4 years, whatever comes first.

I have just dived in a got myself a bargain, you have an advantage as you are keeping yourself to a skoda specialist, keep on that track, a few guys on here can prob give there opinion on where you are going if you are concerned.

Don't be scared just ask!

ok thanks, thats what I thought.

So how do you find your vRS then? I have always liked them but have looked too much at the 0-60 time (which isnt bad) but after doing some research it seems like a rocket from 30-70?

It is fantastic! The whole reason i have been drawn to them was my dad (lfc958)

Check the MOT certificates for worn bushes thats the only other one i know of, mine had the front sus bushes done the other year so thats one less thing for me to worry about for about a week a while. :giggle:

Its so nice to drive, i have tried a few cars but the vRS you can choose to boot like a mad man or you can drive it like your nan on a sunday! it just drives. and is so easy!

People will joke, but thats there loss.

Gears are typical VAG, 1st is to get the car rolling (just), 2nd is preparing you to brace yourself, then 3rd onwards its off. If you wanna drive it sensibly then just drive it like a normal car, if you want it to shift keep it around 2K on gear changes and you are gone!

The car will sit in 6th gear on the motorway happy as a pig in **** and if you need it, just put your foot down and it goes, (if you are doing 60-65 give it a second and it will then go)

If your after a standing start car your looking at the wrong one, if your looking at power when you drive its brilliant.

let us know how the test goes tomorrow! what extras it has! and all important Colour!!! Then piccys :)

Well, test drove the car today and I'm well impressed, I really enjoyed the torque surge lol.

They made a mistake with the advertised mileage, it has 50k on the clock, so haggled a bit and got more money off, a years road tax, a cambelt change and full upholstery valet on those dodgy light coloured seats. Overall very happy.

Picking the car up a week on Saturday, it's '04 in silver :)

Thanks for your replies to my posts and the advice offered, I'll be a regular on this forum now ;)

Hmm, this may sound stupid but here goes...

For some reason I cant get it out my head that I dont know for sure that the car is in good mechanical nick. I think it's because it's a diesel so I'm not used to the sound, and the driving experience. Diesels are noisy, but is it obvious if they aren't running properly? I also think I'm anxious because I've not test driven any other vRS so I have nothing to compare it to.

The car comes with a 12 month warranty and 30 day no quibble refund policy so should be safe enough, and getting them to change the cambelt for me.

I guess I'm just being a bit paranoid, the car I'm trading in is in perfect condition and I've had it from new so know fine well it's been looked after.

On a positive note, I cant wait to pick it up on Saturday :)
