Temperamental Fuel Gauge

Featured Replies

Has anyone ever had this on an Octavia?

I will suddenly notice the gauge is on zero, and the computer also reckons I have zero miles to spare on whats left in the tank.

I can stop and turn off, restart and all is well.

Though I haven't caught the gauge failing during driving or not working from the start of the journey.

I will pay better attention, it has been three times it has done this so far.

I don't want to go to the dealer yet because it is an intermittent fault, and these things never occur for the technician.

Perhaps the fuel sender unit?

I have a different fuel gauge related problem (forgive my thread hijacking) - When I fill up, even after squeezing that little extra after the pump stops first time ;) the gauge doesn't go all the way round to the full position - its maybe 2mm away from the highest level white marker.

i have also had this problem with my octy vrs. it only happend twice, on 2 consecative days. the fuel gauge was on about 1/4 and then suddenly metered to less than empty! when continuing to drive around it slowly (about 15mins(ish)) recovers to the original reading... this was about 3 months ago and i havent seen the problem since.

Happened Once on mine and Vagcom showed an intermittent connection to ground as the problem. It hasn't happened again but I'm gonna upgrade the ground connection anyway.

I also have the problem of never getting the gauge to show as full. I've got it very close using adaptation in vagcom but it's not quite there. A new sender helped but it's still not perfect.
