Don't want to sound on the dumb side but i can never get my air con to work. I have read the service manuals and it says set the auto and open vents 2 and 3 but it never seems cold enough. Is there a specific way to put it on? I have a 57 plate octy vrs tdi pd 170.

Have you ever had the air con serviced? It may need regassing and may have a leak. If it does not blow cold then there is a problem.

It should be a case of pressing Auto so the lamp lights - select the desired temp on the driver-side dial then forget about it - let the car work out whether hot or cold is required to maintain the temperature displayed.

Handy tip - if you've had an interfering passenger aboard who's been fiddling with Climatronic buttons - press & hold Auto in for a cuppla seconds...

well as u mentioned it my best mate was bashing about the other day with that very button. Well worth a wee look at that option.

To test it turn the temp down to low and it should blow fully cold air. If it does not then you need to get it looked at.
