Hi folks,

Just found you all via the 'Honest John' motoring column in the Saturday edition of The Daily Telegraph - well worth a read for it's comprehensive coverage of all things motoring!

I bought my Octavia vRS TDI new in May 2007. It had to be Metallic Blue, with 18" wheels, climate, parking sensors ( current body design gives you NO IDEA of adjacency to obstacles) and diesel because I prefer torque to outright power in the real world.

Probably the best handling four wheeled vehicle I have had the pleasure to own ( I also ride motorcycles for fun).

Won't go on with peons of praise as you all know the facts.

For those of you thinking of a diesel vRS (probably a contradiction in terms to many) it works well once you accept that the narrowish power band necessitates careful choice of gears.

It's really at home on fast sweeping A roads or quick country roads with plenty of bends (rather like a motorcycle) it's composure is unshakeable and motoring nirvana is achieved.

In towns it must be driven with thought and consideration - unlike my wife's Fabia 1.9 TDI which is one of the easiest cars to drive, it wafts you along effortlessly at 55+ mpg - horses for courses as they say.

Oh, and until three days ago it had never put a foot wrong fault wise.

Now has a blotted copybook due to a sticking air-con valve and a faulty parking sensor - both replaced on the cusp of the 3 year warranty cover ending.

26,500 miles to date and it still drives as new, tight and rattle free - I rest my case.
