The size is 185/50 R15 and from new mine has Dunlop SP10A tyres which are wearing very well. They are also cheap to replace with the same Dunlops coming in just over £50 a tyre. Can't comment on the noise as this is the only Skoda I've ever driven but I find it fine. £20 p.a. road tax and 70mpg does it for me.

You can change the wheels/tyres to wider ones, but obviously fuel consumpton will be very slightly less but in theory still more than other models with the same engine as the greenline has a few minor

modifications such as a different front lower spolier

The tyre size is actually 165/70R14. The literature for the car has it incorrectly printed. I have taken this dimension directly of the tyre itself so its definitely correct. My Greenline is 6 weeks old from new. The ride is a little noisier than a standard Fabia due to the higher pressure of the tyres giving a little more road noise but its not horrific. The ride is a little harder as well but not really uncomfortable. It rolls a bit on sharp bends but the grip is fine.

I cant tell you if its noisier than a standard TDI as I have only driven this one. I will say it does rattle a bit when its cold at idle but once you get going its ok. The car excels at long runs but in my opinion isnt so easy around town due to the longer gearbox. That said you do get used to it, just need to adjust your driving style. They do say that around 8000 miles is needed before these engines loosen up and get quieter. Mine has done 2200 miles and is definitely getting better. That or I am just getting used to it.

The main physica ldifferences from a standard Fabia are the skinnier tyres, lowered ride height and streamlined front section under the engine bay. The gearbox has much longer ratio gears for 3,4 & 5. 70mph in 5th is only 2000 rpm as opposed to about 2500 in a standard TDI.

If you do mostly town driving and short journeys I wouldnt get a Greenline. If you do long runs and many miles its realy good. I do minimum 550 miles a week and 70 mpg makes a difference on your pocket as well as a range of around 600-650 miles on a tank.

Definitley give it a good run before you buy as I would think the noisy engine may put some off. Personally I like the foibles of a slightly rattly diesel.

They've also stated the wheels wrong in the latest pre fl brochure. It says they've got the 15" wheels (same wheels as Fabia level 2)

should say 14"

yes sorry i fell in to the trap reading the pdf i saved a while back then when i went to the driveway this morning thought that it was wrong. im shod with 165/70r14. which are fine by me and they are cheap to replace. mine in short daily commute is now return 65+ mpg no issues and i dont find the tall gearing an issue with urban driving with 3rd very flexible, and 4th taking you over a ton. With each month that passes and the miles go up the engine becomes more flexible especially at lower rpm and high gears so the the greenline experience really starts in my book after 12k ! each to their own i think with this model.

Give me another 6 months and I will be at 12000 !

Just thought I would pass on a little nugget I found on Briskoda.........the fuel cap has slots cut in it to allow it to sit nicely on the fuel flap when filling up......I been driving Fabias for 6 yrs and left it hanging ...........never too old to learn something new.

Funny.... I got the tyre info back to front... The pamphlet stated 14" alloys, but my car has 15" ones!! Same width, at 185/65/15's.

Found out about the filler cap first fill... Have you noticed the receipt clip and pen clip inside the glovebox? Or the bag handle holders in the boot? How about the feature that turns up the ventilation speed, if you go into reverse? (Similar to the rear wiper activating, if the fronts are on and you go into reverse). B)

I didnt realise the Greenline had varying spec wheels. Maybe they needed to use up a few alloys here and there.

In which case I suggest people exercise some care in accepting my wheel size info. Check your tyre size first !

I did discover the bag holders...very useful and the clips. Didnt know about the ventilation speed though. Maybe thats only on the climate control version

Might be.. I have the climatronic upgrade... It turns the fan speed up when in reverse. I guess it is because as you are not going forward, there is no rush of air to the screen so it helps out by going faster! Have a try and see.. Set a lowish speed on the fan and put it into reverse gear for a few seconds.....

Also, did yo notice the feature that, if you switch on the hazards for more than half a min, calls the RAC for the Skoda assist brakdown cover? :giggle:

Think it is just that it goes into recirculate mode to stop exhaust fumes being sucked into the cabin when reversing. on the manual air con it does it as well. On the newer golfs think it even does it when you use the front washers to stop fumes from the washer fluid.
