Headlamps do not work

Featured Replies

Hello:

I have a very strange problem. Two days ago the main headlamps of my 2002 Octavia stopped illuminating, both sides at the same time. When I turn the switch form the off postion to the first position the small lights turn on as expected. When I turn to the second/final stop the main lights do not turn on as before. When I pull the switch the front fog lamp do work as normal. When I pull again the rear fog lamp also works ok. If I turn on the far-illuminating lamps they also work normally. Summary: every lamp works ok except the normal headlights.

Any Ideas? I already checked the actual bulbs, and they are ok (battery tested). The fuses are also ok. What else should I check?

Thank you

Light switch.

Light switch.

Agreed - if you've checked all the other obvious possible solutions then it is is probably a faulty switch

The following presumes your instument panel is the same as on European models:-

When you turn the light switch to the second position, does the green "low beam" warning light illuminate? If I've understood you correctly, it may not.

When you push the LH stalk away from you into the "high beam" position, you get the blue "high beam" warning light and high beams yes?

If you've got the green light but no low beams, the problem is probably in the switchgear at the base of the LH stalk.

If you've not got the green light or the low beams, I'd suspect the headlight relay itself first.
