De cat pipe - Which one have people got - Make your own?

Featured Replies

I'm wanting to de cat my vRS. My mechanic has said that he could weld me a section in (but this would be tricky to sort when it comes to MOT time.

I saw a while back that someone had bought one of ebay (and I seem to remember it been about £50, which seems very cheap)

My question is, what have people fitted, and has anyone tried to make their own (I'm thinking buy a knackered cat, cut the ends of and weld a piece of pipe in the middle)

I'm I talking rubbish or is this possible??

anything's possible if you no how. aslong as you leave both sensor holes in place and have a nice mot man that will pass it with a de-cat (as it needs a cat for the mot) or your prepared to swap to the standard cat at mot time you should be fine. me personally, i paid just under £100 for an unsilenced de-cat downpipe and then paid £150 for a 200 cel sports cat to be fitted into it. saved me £200 as miltek downpipe n sports cat is £410

Shame you not in cardiff, I have had a 2.5" DP made for 78 notes and the 200 cel cat was 199 back when I had the cat back made, I just had it put on the std DP which was very good really. The DP is not actually the most restrictive part, its the cat. the DP helps but just replacing the cat with a sprots one will make a big diff. not sure what the DP will gain me power wise till I can get map tweeked.

This is what I'm thinking..... Does anyone know what the best way to get an exhaust flange that fits on the vRS is? looks the same as the one on the VW forum on the link above.

Also, the decat pipe you have abouve is one piece. As standard is their a break between the downpipe and cat? I'm thinking just replace where the cat is, but need the right attachment to fit to the down pipe

mine was a de-cat downpipe which went from the turbo. the one in the link is just a de-cat pipe, all you would have to do is chop your cat out then just get a bit of pipe which is slightly bigger than your exhaust. no need for a flange but just remember you need both sensors in so would somehow have to make a new mount for the second one
