CAR WONT START WITH NEW DIALS

Featured Replies

HI I HAVE A 99 OCTAVIA TDI AND MY DIALS DECIDED TO STOP WORKING SO I WENT TO THE SCRAP YARD AND BOUGHT A SECOND HAND SET BUT IT KEEPS COMING UP THAT THE CAR IS IMMOBILISED

COULD ANYONE HELP ME TO CLEAR THIS OR BYPASS THE IMMOBILISER COMPLETLY

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

The immobiliser is located in the dash panel insert. As well as replacing the dials you have also replaced the immobiliser Your 'new' immobiliser will not now correspond to the codes stored in the key and the engine ECU. There is a coding procedure for fitting used dash panel inserts, for which you will need the PIN numbers for both dash panels and someone with the knowledge and equipment to do it.

Other options are to get your existing dash panel fixed, return to the scrapyard and get the engine ECU (providing that is exactly the same as your current one), the door/ignition lock barrels and the keys from the same car that your replacement dash panel insert came from, or you could get in touch with a specialist such as Shark Performance (who are partners on this site) who may be able to help you.

You need to find someone with vagtacho who can get the pins from the old and new instrument panels. :) Then they can code the new panel with the old one's immob code, and it should be fine. :)
