Oh no! I've been asleep. 1.6 TDI CR ?

Featured Replies

Stewth. What happened to the 1.9 PD TDI 109 HP engine?

It is now 1.6 or 2.0. Crikey.

Where can I find views on the 1.6 ?

It sounds a bit puny to haul an Octavia around fully laden--and I'm good at doing that.

Regards.

We're not allowed to discuss the 1.6 CR on here.

I have a 1.6 cr Octavia company car and love it. I hated the old 1.9 pd engine

Get the 2,0CR 140, if it's as good as the old PD engine in torque then you'll love it, from what I've read elsewhere on here, the 1,6 needs to be worked reasonably hard to get real ooomph. Which would suggest it's more suitable for more lightly loaded cars, than fully laden ones.

The 1.6TD CR is great, I have one as a company car and it's very tax efficient and powerful enough. Torque and BHP are the same as the outgoing 1.9 PD but the low down delivery (i.e before the turbo kicks in) is not as punchy. The newer generation of CR engines don't have compressions ratios as high as the older diesels and with the 300cc less capacitiy the naturally aspirated torque (before the turbo kicks in) is bound to be less.

The only way you'll know if you'll like it is to test drive one.

I very often carry a heavy load in the boot - after all, that's what the Octy is best for. I also had 4 adults in it the other day and I couldn't really say I noticed any difference in performance.

Personally, I think the OP would miss the grunt of a 1,9 engine, so to replace it & not to miss the grunt factor, I think that a 2,0CR 140 would be the best option as it wouldn't need to be worked anywhere near as hard as a 1,6CR.

I know that I miss the torque of a diesel since the move to petrol & I'll be returning to diesel asap because of it & the economy of diesel.
