Hi from Sweden

Hi to all at Briskoda,

Having scanned the Net for the past two weeks looking for the best forum on Skoda cars I believe I have found probably the best on the planet.

I am an ex-pat Brit that moved to Sweden over 25 years ago. Moving from the urban jungle of London to the wide open country landscapes of the Nordic lands, living an hour west of Stockholm.

(Please read on only if you have the time. I hope you do.)

Presently driving an Audi A4 2.0 TDI Q S-line Estate as a company car and a SAAB 9-3 hatchback as the family car, well if the truth be told my better half uses the SAAB. Having owned the SAAB from new, it was now after 8 years, time for a change. SAAB has been my favourite car for most of my life (not my dream car though) and over the last 20 years I have driven as a company car or owned personally eight to date therefore SAAB (the old 9-5 Sports Combi), after receiving an interesting offer from the local dealer, was one for the list.

To that list was added, scrutinized and test driven by my wife, older daughter and myself the following Estates also: the Ford Mondeo Business Edition 2.0 Flexifuel; the Mazda 6, 2.0 Advance Plus; the Toyota Avensis 2.0 VVT-i; the VW Passat Variant TDI Sportline; the Opel Insignia Sports Tourer 2.0 Turbo ECOTEC, the Volvo V70 II 1.6D DRIVe; the Skoda Superb Combi Elegance TSI DSG and also the Honda CR-V (only because I had one as a company car 3 years back and my wife loved the high seating and space). Putting the Honda in wasn’t really that fair as it was a completely different type of vehicle and made it just a little bit more difficult to choose.

After 10 days of solid hard work and a lot of fun we finally made our decision. After only a couple of days the first car to be dropped from our list was the Ford - we just didn’t like the feel. Followed very quickly thereafter by the Opel, Mazda, Toyota, VW and SAAB (it was just an “old†car and I gave up brand loyalty to SAAB over 3 years ago).

We have never been great fans of Volvo’s but were anyway surprised by how quite all-round these cars have become (even though still a Volvo) but the 1.6D DRIVe just put us to sleep. True we would be saving a great deal on running costs but where’s the fun? This was really true Swedish, just get the job done and that was it. That now left us with two vehicles to decide from - the CR-V and the Superb - and it wasn’t easy to start with.

The great fun with having so many different cars on the list from almost different dealerships is the fun pitching one off with the other. We had Ford phoning us days on end offering a better deal with every phone call. After a number of visits at Volvo the salesman had the sales manager come in and give us what I consider to be a very good deal. The discount went up a couple of percent and the interest rate went down a couple. All in all everyone was offering “better deals†– they know their margins and it is just a question of getting them to give their maximums.

CR-V or Superb? I know it is a no brainer for some but it took us three days to separate them and another two days to finally make up our minds. The CR-V is one very comfortable and enjoyable SUV to drive and we liked it. The Superb was newer, comfortable, much more space and a lot more “value for the moneyâ€. Having scanned the Internet and reading numerous articles and tests by motor magazines all over the world and some of the best unbiased information found here on Briskoda it just had to be the Superb in the end.

So what did we order?

Skoda Superb Combi 2011 Elegance TSI DSG 7-automatic; and apart from everything that comes standard for Sweden, the following:

Colour: Amethyst Purple metallic with Alcantara leather seats (black/black on the inside)

Business package including 4 spoke steering wheel (multi function), Bluetooth hands free, parking assist, sunset tinted rear windows and Bolero radio system

Trifid 17†alloy wheels

Removable Tow bar

Electrically controlled rear door

KESSY system

Webasto heating system

And now the killer (and here I understand we are not alone). Before placing our order the salesman did “warn†us that earliest delivery would be the middle of …

SEPTEMBER.

Anyway, we placed our order on the 28 May and if we are lucky we have been told that there could be a chance (if only small) that we can drive our new car out of the showroom the middle of August.

For those of you that have persevered and read this intro to the end I am thankful and also amazed. True fans of the Skoda brand. I will keep you all updated when things change concerning delivery and eventually photos.

Now, we (my wife, two daughters ,our Basenji and myself) are just eagerly anticipating that phone call from Skoda with a pleasant “your car is ready, sirâ€.

OK, it will be my wife that will drive the Superb out of the showroom (as she did the SAAB) as this will be hers.

Hello and Welcome to Briskoda.

A very nice introduction - If only more members would take the time to do so. I myself have been to Sweden and Stockholm itself - I decided it would be an amazing idea to canoe around Sweden!

I do hope that you enjoy the car when you finally get it. Please do enjoy the site and feel free to post up any questions you have to ask.

All the best,

Rob.

Welcome :)

Thank you Rob,

Glad you found the introduction interesting. Yes, we just can´t wait for the delivery. We had originally planed to be driving our new car during the holidays which are in July here in Sweden. I guess we get to save the miles.

Hope you enjoyed your trip to Sweden. There are a lot of lakes and rivers to caneo around. I have done that myself. Camping after a long day on the lake. Hope you get to do that some day.

Best regards,

Alvin

Hi Welcome, I am the proud owner of a Yeti, have many been spotted in your part of the world ?

Thanks for the greetings.

When our local Skoda dealer heard that we were also considering the Honda CR-V and that we could pick the CR-V up for immediate delivery they offered the Yeti as an alternativ since on this model they also were able to deliver the same day. Tempted but the Superb was our choice.

Amazing how Skodas just happen to be "all over the place" now that we have decided to buy one and yes the Yeti seems quite popular over here also. That is not to say that it is seen everywhere but I have seen at least 5 this past week.

Best regards,

Alvin

I can now confirm that bar any mishaps we will be driving our car out of the showroom this Friday afternoon (10 September). emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

The salesman would like us to be there at 4.30. All in all this will have been a wait of exactly 15 weeks. In fact almost to the very hour on the day that we placed our order the 28 May.

Will get back with a new post and of course in due time some photos. emoticon-0100-smile.gif

Thank you Skoda. We just love our new car. We drove out of the showroom at little after 6 yesterday evening.

Please checkout "The Colour Purple" read about our experience yesterday and link to some "purple coloured" photos.

All the best

Hmm just trading in my Saab 93 for new Skoda vRS Estate. Had good experience with Saab so waited to see what the new 95 was like but did not like the specs. Test drove the Skoda vRS just to see what it was like......and that clinched it !

Also was looking at the Superb as tempting alternative, but in the end went for vRs with more zip.

Trust we both enjoy the change in brand !!

Thank you for your comment Gnskoda.

SAAB has been one of my favourite brands going back to the middle of the 70´s. Back then when most other cars were "square" SAAB was streamlined and that caught my attention. As mentioned earlier I have driven many Saab’s in the past but since their lack of momentum when it has come to developing new models I began looking at others. So far after driving the Superb for three days now we are all very happy with our new car.

Hope you will enjoy your vRs just as much. emoticon-0148-yes.gif
