Clarification needed on vRS Engine

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I ordered a new Octavia vRS Petrol hatch on Sunday - Anthracite Grey, manual, with leather, xenons, etc .

I will be getting delivery sometime in November.

Is anyone able to confirm definitively whether the 2.0 petrol engine will be TFSI or TSI? And will it be ONLY turbocharged, or turbocharged AND supercharged?

Sorry for the noob question!

It will be TSi and turbo only. People aren't born with knowledge ,they gather it from others, so it is not a noob question  Edit you are confused because the 1.4 Tsi engine in the polo Ibiza and new Fabia VRS is the 178 bhp Tsi engine ,and that is both supercharged and turbo charged, with a dsg gearbox ,7 speed!!

That's great, thanks for the reply. I am agonising over the spec, however - for example I really wanted to like the DSG but actually returned the DSG test drive car back after 10 minutes saying I wanted to re-try the manual car (which is what I ended up ordering). I should have tried the DSG box for longer. I partly blame the salesman for this as he didnt tell me about the S setting on the DSG box, and in D the gear changes were a little sluggish...

However in ordering the manual box, I console myself with the thought of having one less "complex" thing that can go wrong on the car...

I also regret not specifying the auto-dimming mirrors, it wasnt that expensive, and could have even replaced some of the lesser important options I selected.

My options ended up being:

metallic paint

leather interior

xenon lights

spare tyre

front and rear parking sensors

MDI

curtain airbags

If its not to late, go for the auto dimming mirrors, I had them in 2 previous cars and i really miss them now!

I find DSG boxes a bit of a novelty, a lot of drivers just leave them in auto. If you spend a lot of time in traffic, they are great, and in Auto mode can change faster than you can, but not for me, I like changing gear manually . I am sure you will be able to add the dipping mirrors ,even though you have ordered the car, the build date will be at least a month off, and I am sure your dealer would be more than happy to take some more wad off you. A mate on here did the same he ordered White, then his wife played hell :giggle: so he ordered Anthracite instead

I thought the same and the GF has it her A3 and I hate it, so when I ordered my 3rd VRS 2.0T I stuck with the manual box but it's all about choice and options (handy for crawling along the M25 though!!!)

Get the auto dimming mirror. It's so much better. Phone them up todtay!

Just like to add to this, that having ordered mine last week too...it seems like a bit of a 'wait and see what comes' system. Unlike the other VAG cars, they don't really tell you any of what to expect spec wise, just the highlights. I can't even find what the brakes are, I'm guessing I'll get disks all round, seeing as they specify red calipers, but you never know if it ain't in writing!

Just phoned to add the auto dimming mirror option - the dealer said the order is locked down and cannot be modified. I can only assume the dealer is telling the truth, as they are refusing to take more money for the additional option...

It cannot be retro-fitted either.

Oh well... I am surprised at how quickly the order locked down though (I only completed the vehicle order form on Sunday 4th July)!

I find that odd it will be 3 months before you get it, unless they already have one coming in that spec, so that is why you cant change it? I would ring customer services at skoda GB

....and a +1  for the auto mirror from me too !!, fine colour choice also !

Sorry another nooby question: is the TFSI the engine in the Golf GTI MK6? And if so, does this mean the Octy RS has the old engine with cam belt rather than chain?

Yes the TFSi engine has a belt rather than chain which needs replacing every 4 years

Here on this forum in great detail is the difference between the two, but yours TSi anyway
