aircon compressor problem

Featured Replies

I tried using the search thingy but no luck....

Last week i sent the car to the dealer to repair the damage caused by what i can only describe as an idiot. The damage was only superficial - scratches along the right side and some dents in the doors. Everything was fine until 2 days ago, when the AC stopped working. I mean, it did work but no matter if it was set to 25C or 18C the air was the same temp. Imagine the joys of driving it on 40C with hot air blown in your face...

So yesterday i sent it back to the dealer and i was told the pulley on the AC compressor needs changing, the AC radiator is cracked (can anything get up there and crack it ?!) and that they recommend changing the AC compressor altogether and that is about 800 Euros. What do you guys think ?

I think these guys are complete idiots... I mean what can you expect when you see them on the news because 2 blokes from the service dept took a client's R8 and managed to get it to burn down on the outskirts of the town...?

I didn't think the pulley fell off on the MK II, so it's worth checking exactly why the pulley needs changing.

As for the radiator, it is fairly exposed up front, so could well be damaged.

If there is an aircon specialist around your area, they might be able to give you an opinion.

Also if the A/C system has leaked you'll want a new drier on there IMHO.
