Hello, the time has come to upgrade the sound system in my Octavia mk1 cos im fed up with the below par quality.

Im mostly wondering about the head unit and if its worth keeping it installed. I prefer the look of the standard unit

obviously cos its flush with the rest of the car but Im wondering if its powerfull enough to run a decent set of speakers and a sub.

Im also wondering if I can even link up a sub to the standard head unit anyway. Also the 6 disc changer in the boot only plays the

cds IT wants to play not the cds I want to play!

So i guess im just wondering what set ups u lot have in ur Octavia 1ns and if u have any good recomendations??

Oh and I forgot to mention. I find that the standard unit has some kind of safety volume limit that wont increase the volume

no matter how far i turn the knob after it thinks its loud enough. this irritates me and I would like to know if i can turn it off?

If not i guess that would still affect how far i could turn the volume up if i put in new speakers which could handle more volume.

I left mine in for ages with the same thought and I got sick of the auto volume thing (I don't think you can turn it off)

A handy tip is, empty the CD changer before removing the headunit, I've got a feeling I am going to have to reconnect the stereo to get my cd's out
