Head unit replacement

Featured Replies

Hi all,

As per my introduction, I've just purchased a 2001 Fabia 1.9 Tdi Elegance. I am wanting to replace the...whats the word?...Tacky? radio cassette player in it with my Alpine head unit from my last car (R.I.P). I have brought the fasica, aerial amplifier and harness adapter but I dont seem to be able to find any stereo removal keys for it. Halfords said they dont sell keys that remove stereos from Skodas but they will swap the unit over for

Are the Audi removal keys flat like the slots in the Skoda HU? If so you should be OK, although I'm sure one of our ICE experts will be along shortly to tell you exactly what is needed :)

Don't let Halfrauds rip you off. DIY at least you know it will have been done the way you want the job done.

Here is a picture of what the HU removal tools will look like link

That site is seriously slow. Takes forever to load up.

I have found this site just now "http://www.add-a-cdchanger.co.uk/acatalog/SHOP_Home_Page_Radio_Removal_Keys_441.html" The skoda superb keys - aren't they just for the skoda superb? I'm confused now. The Audi keys are at the top of that page.

And yes I agree, i've never paid anyone to fit any stereo equipment in my car and I don't intend on starting now...especially Halfords.

Interesting both Audi and Skoda are fitted with the Symphony HU but have different removal keys

To be honest if you already have the Audi keys and you don't go ramming them in with loads of force you should be OK

nope havent got them yet, trying to find out which set to buy :)

Think ill get them anyway. If they work i'll be sure to say so.

Audi keys are different to the Skoda keys.

Andy if you want a set PM me your info and i'll post you a set FOC, I have a set that Jason passed onto me so I could take my radio out, but now I work at a Skoda dealer I have a few sets.

Bit like a Briskoda pass the parcel.

Ross, Keys arrived yesterday but were put through my neighbours door(Bloody postie isnt getting a pressie now) so didnt get them until today.

Swaped the stereo over to my old Sony as teh Alpine hasnt arrived yet.

Anyway, thanks very much for sending them. It was much appreicated. :)

Take care.

Glad you got them OK.

Ross

there are two different vag keys, one is slightler wider than the other, one size is vertical the other is horizontal. but in all honesty its easier to use a set of standard kenwood keys, they are a bit tight and need a bit of a wiggle but found to be much easier than the proper heys
