Looking to buy vRS...couple of questions?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

I have been lurking around on here for a while now as I am looking to buy an Octy Mk1 Vrs on an 03 plate. There are a couple of things that bother me with it though. Firstly the stone chips on the bonnet...there are a lot of them! It's on 90,000mls and I know this is genuine...just seems like a lot of chips, do these chip easily and has anyone had a bonnet resprayed and roughly how much did it cost? Secondly the 2 radiator fans are on constantly from when the car starts up? Is this the temp sensor on the radiator playing up or am I looking at another problem. Thirdly there are a number of scratches on the wing mirror (red car) and the front bumber. Has anyone tried respraying the colour coded bumbers and what kind of success did you have?

Everything else seems fine with the exception of the cold start idling problem that I was expecting and after reading similar problems on here, I should be able to deal with this myself :-) The sump guard has snapped off recently so this will need replacing too....not a big deal though.

Guys and Girls any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

very many thanks

I've got a corrida red MK1 on 87k, and it's chipped to buggery. They're blunt and the paint isn't too tough, which is a bad combination. Just use red Colour Magic wax every couple of weeks and that'll take the edge off it.

Turn the climate control to econ & the fans should stop. If that doesn't stop the fans there's a problem somewhere. If it has idle problem try changing the Coolant Temp Sensor.

Are you sure it's the radiator fans, as the secondary air pump can make a lot of noise and that starts up everytime the car is started from cold (and is in the lower front of the engine bay behind the radiator).

Re. stone chips mine has done over 130k miles and the front bumper is a mess, the bonnet has been replaced but 2nd bonnet already has dozens of stone chips on it. I reckon a sprayer would be able to do the bonnet, wing mirror covers and bumper for a few hundred quid but I can never be bothered to get it sorted as it'll just get chipped again :dull:

Yeah I am getting the impression that these cars chip easily. I reckon I will get the wing mirror and bumper done by one of these SMART sprayers...that would be good enough for me! The fans were definately running and the secondary air pump seems intact from the quick glimpse I had. The Rivets seems fine.

Cheers for thr reply :-)

Don't forget to check the interior light operates when you open all the doors, especially the drivers.

They're renound for failing, and they're a bugger to replace.

The interior light worked fine...which is a bonus... I have a V70 at the mo and the micro switches in the doors cause the exact same problems on that...as well as setting of the alarm!!!

Cheers boss ;-)

Yup they attract stones like flies to horse ... unfortunately.

Mine is on 86k and touch wood running great so much so I can't bring myself to get rid :S

90k service just booked.. £117, it's relatively cheap motoring.
