de-pressurising noise after ignition switch off?!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, picked up my octavia yesterday and after a 10 mile drive home i switched the ignition off, then started the car again briefly just to reverse it onto the drive. The first time after I turned the ignition off it didn't make a noise but the second time it made like a strange whooshing almost bubbling noise, I have started the car from stone cold dead and have no such noise so I'm not worried about head gasket failure etc or absolutely nothing to suggest a pressure problem car drives 110% but still, was strange that it didn't do it the first time after the long journey but the second time it did and didn't do it after driving at normal operating temperature later? Does the fuel system sometimes de-pressurise or something? Thinking it might be something like that?

Also have a bit of wind noise (a tiny whistle) at around 70-80 on motorway which goes completely when I open the near side front or near side rear windows even a tiny bit, no odd panel gaps or anything, is there a common fix for these i wonder? Like the wind is causing some sort of noise off the closed windows...

Okay info on either would be great

The bubbling noise might be the air con refrigerant moving around behind the dash, mine sometimes makes a bit of a bubbling or gurgling noise after turning it off, especially if I've had the climate control on and on cold.

Some members have found the bottom nearside corner of the windscreen can cause wind noise because of the way the plastic surround sticks up. Try putting a piece of tape over it and see if that makes a difference. Otherwise it could be an issue with the window seal if you're only noticing the noise when the windows are up.

Cheers mate, never fail to help out on here! Very very much appreciated.

Yes your suggestion with the air con refrigerant is probably right as I spent ages ****ing about with all the settings to see what was what, ive only had cars with a generic heating system before so this was a bit of a shock with all buttons and settings (sounds like i come from the stone age lol)

And yeah with the wind noise it only happens with windows up, i'll look out for any sort of hanging seal to see if the wind is breaking through causing a small whistle

Again, many thanks :)

No probs, hope you get it sorted  What part of Cov are you from? I'll have to keep an eye out for you, I'm often up in Stoke Aldermoor

Brilliant mate, i'm sure I will. I'm from Longford/Little Heath.. if you come off the M6 you'd have probably seen the big Ricoh arena and tesco, about 5 minutes from there :)
