Skoda Newbie

Featured Replies

Morning all,

Bought first Skoda just over 5 weeks ago and pretty happy so far.

Octavia 1.8T VRS on a 52 plate, previous owner had modified engine, brakes and some suspension components. Lovely car in comparison to my former 98 plate Mondeo.

First problems came on Saturday, rear driver's side suspension noted to be squeaking a lot and rear wheel closer to wheel arches than before: problem = rear coil spring sheered off near the top and the mounting cup at the top gone awol. Been quoted about £100 plus VAT to fix. Not too bad I think. A bit miffed though as I don't drive like a loony and the Nottinghamshire roads arenet exactly cobbled!

Second problem, also on Saturday, rear passenger side door lock jammed shut: repeated use of fob doesn't work, giving the lock a hefty thump at the same time as unlocking with fob also not bearing fruit. Having searched about on google and on this site and this appears to be a common fault. Been quoted £250 to £300 by garage to fix this :-(

Vehicle is under a 12 month warranty that covers the rear coil spring no problem but is somewhat less helpful for the central locking issue i.e. it'll cover the lock/motor and associated remove/replace labour but not the costs incurred in getting the dam door open to start with. Any suggestions are welcome on how to get the door open with minimum fuss and damage. If anyone could signpost me to an idiots guide that'll be great.

Cheers
