Rattling heat shield - Where to get fixings?

Featured Replies

I was getting a lot of rattling/knocking from underneath the car (octy vrs mk1), so i had a poke around. Found that the heat shield above the catalyst was only held on by one fixing and is hitting the top of the catalyst. The fixings seem to be a sort of push on washer type of a thing and in the case of this shield three have rusted and fallen off (there was a rusted third of a washer left on one bit).

Anyone replaced these before? If so, where's the best place to get them? Anywhere on line, or will I have to go to Skoda dealer? Hopefully you dont have to by the shield with the washers as a complete item!

Had the same with my Mk1

You can get new 1s from the dealer but found thay dont grip the the threads anymore as like you thay were rusty.

The best way of fixing them was to push the new 1s on and put a small spot weld on them all and thay have not moved from that day and no more rattle.

Thanks for that. Will give it a go.

I just took mine to the garage, the back of the heatshield was still held on but the front was hanging off, they just spot welded the front, cost me £20

Take it off ,you dont really need it.

I ripped mine off the other week.

Job done :)
