Hello to you

I'm the v happy owner of a 2004 Octavia Elegance estate 130bhp TDI.

4 months ago when I began my search for a second hand new motor (new for me), my intention was to buy either a VW Bora, a Toyota Avensis (2nd gen), or a Ford Focus C Max. I missed a really tidy C Max by a matter of hours and an equally tidy Bora by a day. The Skoda garage I bought mine from, had a solid Avensis on their forecourt, but common sense kicked in as the Toyota was not an estate. (Kids).

I'm so glad I missed or dismissed those cars. Some things seem to happen for a reason and I bought my Octy within 69 minutes of seeing it .

It was v obvious I was getting a Bora/ Golf with benefits - cracking estate - higher spec (no sun roof on Bora - air con on Bora, clim control on Yoda my Skoda) and an alledgedly better built car than the C Max. Having just read a Wiki page about the Octavia mk1, it is alledgedly also better built than the VW Golf/Bora equiv!

What a result! - Sorry for preaching to the conformed but I just wanted to shout to a wise audience about how happy I am about my car.

Having just returned from a family hoilday in South Devon, my grin is even wider. The VW engine is superb!- v econ and powerful.

If anyone remembers the old Audi strap line - 'the more you know, the less you show' - i think this now applies to Skodas.

Understated, robust brilliance.

My broad question to the group is:

My car has done 66k - with v good service history.

- What goes wrong with these cars and when?

Any informed answers would be greatly appreciated.

All the best

Nick
