Where is this spring from?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know where this spring should be on my car? It dropped down from under the dashboard. Does it have anything to do with the ashtray as mine no longer springs open?

No idea where its from, although I doubt a 10'' spring would be used to hold the ash tray open..

It's off the bottom of the seat, depending which footwell you found it in depends which seat it's off, mine fell off my drivers seat which still works fine so ain't got a clue what it does

Thanks very much. I reckon it must have come off the passenger seat then as found it in that footwell.

it's not from underneath the seat is it? looks like the type that holds the seat cover taught from under the seat? :S

Edit: Oop's beaten to it :giggle:

Could be, not taking my seat out to find out, plus i think i've threw it now seen as the seat still worksemoticon-0112-wondering.gif

They are off the seat but I've never managed to get one back on, they are very strong.

Mine fell off as well, i took the seat out to try and fit my advise would be dont bother as i was trying for and hour and still didnt manage to get it to fit :wonder:

If someone knows what it does lets us know as the seat works fine but it must of done something as im sure VAG dont fit things for no reason??

Ditto, mine fell off my drivers seat. Passengers is still attached. I think it may be something to do with the height adjuster, but everything still works so I've bunged it in the boot.

That spring stops the height changing when you get in and out of the seat. Fortunately, the grease on the mechanism is now so full of fluff it doesn't move anyway :)

To refit the spring, it's usually quicker if you remove the seat - then it's reasonably easy.

I too discovered this spring rolling around the floor recently, seems to have dropped off the driver's seat.

I subsequently found a small black hook-shaped piece of metal that looks like it sheared off somewhere - perhaps it held the spring, else I cant imagine such a hefty spring coming loose on its own.

The small black hook-shaped piece of metal is the key. It snaps off & the spring drops off. I managed to modify mine to get it back on.

As stated earlier in the thread, the spring is for the height adjuster & you need to take the seat out (easy) to refit it as it's very strong & you'll have to mod something to replace the broken off bit.
