Winter Q

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I would like to ask you about 2 things:

A.) Ski Bag. The original ski-bag costs around 120 EUR. Is it possible to use any generic ski bag or Audi/VW ski bag that may be found on the ebay? The important is that it has the same locking system as the original Superb ski bag.

B.) I use 225/45/R17 94V tires now. I am considering buying new set of rims+tires 205/55/R16 for winter. Are there any safety reasons why this should not be done?

Thank you for your input!

Regards.

Providing you fit the same (or higher) load rating (94) then there is nothing wrong with that - that is the size that Skoda recommend for winter tyres on the Superb.

The part of the answer for the load rating requirement may not be entirely correct.

The legal and safety requirements are met by selecting tyres with a load rating the same as or greater than that required by the axle weights marked on the VIN plate under the bonnet.

Axle 1 is the front axle, and axle 2 is the rear axle. Look up the weight to load index table, (easily found on the internet), to find the minimum load indexes for each axle, remembering to divide the total axle weight by two to get the maximum permissible weight on each tyre.
