Head removel - Price / Code for pistons or aftermarket pistons?

Featured Replies

Changed the post rather than starting a new thread.

Yes the turbo does need to come off to remove the head.

It appears that a piston is damaged but the cylinder is ok......

If I can get away with replacing the piston what should I do and any ideas where to source them?

Just trying to get as much information as possible.....

When removing the head must the turbo be removed first?

Is there a head gasket guide anywhere for the 1.8T?

Don't think there is a head gasket guide as they never seem to blow on these.

make sure of what engine pistons have come from - BAM uses lower compression and 20mm piston pins, most others have the higher compression and 19mm pins (except some early engines, AGU for example I'm pretty sure uses higher compression with 20mm pins) so you may need to use the whole set of pistons, and possibly the rods if your pins don;t match. All rods are the same effective length.
