Firstly "Hello All", and I'd like to say I'm mightily impressed by the knowledge, expertise and advice given on these threads!

I've just brought a Fabia 1.9 SDI saloon, 51 plate, after 20 years of unflinching loyalty to the Audi marque. However, I saw the Fabia advertised at a decent price with full service history, so I took the plunge as I was told "same as an A3, only cheaper...."

The car seems exteremly solid, well built with a strong, frugal engine. A basic interior, but reassuringly so, and on the suprisingly good drive home (some 60 miles), I found myself smiling while listening to ELO's Greatest Hits belting out from the CD.

Then it happened....., the dreaded power steering warning light came on about 30 miles into the journey and I thought I noticed a mere flicker of the headlights from time to time!

I continued my journey home, simply hoping that the power steering fluid needed topping up and then decided to do the necessary Google search: HORROR!!

Is there a set fault checking procedure for this complaint or even a simple, cash concious remedy?

I've got every thing crossed and hope the geniuses out there can help!
