mutifunction steering wheel

Featured Replies

I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge of the possibilities of fitting a steering wheel with controls for the stereo to a car that originally didn't have it. My octy mk 1 has a standard wheel but i'm sure there were models of mk1 octavia with steering wheels that have stereo controls on them. Assuming i had a car with this kind of wheel already, all i would need would be a skoda to jvc adapter (i have aftermarket head unit). If i was to retro fit a multifunction steering wheel i'd still need this adaptor but would i need to update the convenience ecu or somthing too? this is what worries me because i dont thing the controls on thesse steering wheels conect directly to the stereo.

Plus does anyone know what models/countries these steering wheels were available in? and what my chances of finding one now are?

I'm pretty sure Shark can do that for you.

Not sure about multifunction steering wheels on the Mk.4 platform.

Someone on uk-mkivs has fitted a mk.5 steering wheel to a mk.4, for the purpose of having buttons.

Even if you can find a mk.4 steering wheel with buttons, you don't have the wiring harness in place to plug into.

My guess would be, that you'd have to make your own wiring loom and figure out how to connect the buttons on the steering wheel directly to the headunit.

Another thing to consider is some members have changed their head units to aftermarket ones and never been able to re-gain full use of the functions of the M/F wheel.

So it might be a lot of hassle obtaining one only to be back at square one!

Came across a photo I took for reference of the centre of the steering wheel.

You can see from the connector block, there's no room to get extra wires through.

The small connector block above the airbag and horn connector block appear to be unused. It has two pins sticking out, but have no idea what they're for (or where they go)

interested to know what those two pins are for but over the course of just one day i've decided it's all too much hassle for something that probably wont benefit me much. My head unit is a touchscreen one with an 8 gb memory card full of tunes so I would still need to use the screen to browse folders and stuff anyway
