Rear Wash Wipe Fluid Leak From Mechanism

Featured Replies

I've got a problem with leaking fluid from the rear wash wipe on my Octavia. It isn't the apparently common leak from a blown off-pipe. Having got the boot trim off, the pipes themselves are not leaking. The water is jetting out of the wiper mechanism. I suspect the tube that carries the fluid through the mechanism has failed. I'd like to replace it. Is this possible and has anyone else tried? I'd rather avoid buying a new wiper motor assembly if possible. I want something like the repair mentioned in this thread but for the Octavia. If no-one has any experience, I may try taking the assembly apart and photographing the steps to see if a repair is possible (the worst that will happen is that I will still need a new motor assembly, I guess).

Have now replaced the wiper motor assembly to fix this issue. Not too bad a job. The hardest part was getting the boot trim off - just three nuts holding the motor onto studs on the boot and the central nut on the wiper spindle once I got to the motor itself. On taking the old assembly apart, the problem seems to be leakage from a rubber seal around the bottom of the wiper motor spindle letting wash fluid into the motor housing where it has washed out the grease and done much corroding. I'm a little disappointed with the design - nothing to indicate that the new part won't do the same thing a few years down the line...
