Quick question regarding MAF

Featured Replies

I was fettling with the car earlier, I couldn't work out why when I unplug the MAF connector, it makes no difference to the running of the car. I had read that doing so would effect the running quality greatly. This wouldn't come as a surprise if the car already ran poorly. But it doesn't?

It is however an ASV TDi, am I getting confused and does the poor running only occur when this is done with the 1.8 20v turbo's?

Thanks to anyone who can help clear this confusion up.

Think you've got it the wrong way round, if the car's running badly and you unplug the Maf and it runs ok then your Maf is poorly. If your car's running ok and you unplug the Maf and its still ok your Maf is fine.

Right, I see, perhaps with the MAF unplugged it was be running slightly differently, but not hugely noticeably so (otherwise it begs the question, what's the point?)Thanks for clearing that up Raf! +1 Briskoda help point to you if such a thing existed... I think it should!

It runs off what it knows the figures "should" be at certain revs.

Probably not very fuel efficent like that

So when its plugged in and working it knows exactly what the figure is and fuel accordingly adn in the process keeps the hippies happier (although not fully happy of course)
